Congratulations – U T O P I A

By news, Uncategorised

Congratulations to John Pilger & Dartmouth Films.

Their hard-hitting film Utopia has been voted 5th best film of 2013 by London Film Review.

This feature-documentary contrasts the wealth and complacency of white Australia to the inhumane treatment of the indigenous Australians.

Utopia is an Australian irony: the name of one of the poorest and desolate areas of the continent.

Situated  200 miles north of Alice Springs, the local health centre for indigenous people has no running water, one racid toilet and snakes can get through the cracks in the corrugated-iron walls. Just next door is a large, fenced-off house with 18 air-conditioning units attached where the white district commissioner lives…

Directors Cut invests in Object Matrix

By news, Uncategorised

Having long been fans of Object Matrix’s robust tier 2 storage, we have now invested in 60TB of their MatrixStore. It will form an integral of part of an on-going, exciting Avid integration project, but will initially form the backbone of our near-line storage infrastructure.

Installation was very straight forward with the help of Gavin & the Object Matrix team assisted by our systems integrator Absolute Cad.

With over 50 hours of programming in the autumn pipeline, the benefits of the MatrixStore are already having significant impact on the speed & efficiency of our workflows.

Andy Nicholson, our technical director says, “with ever-increasing demands for storage due to file based acquisition, it was essential to find a solution that provided proven durability, as well as a means of tracking and maintaining media and metadata. No other product offers all this with seamless integration into Avid workflows. Object Matrix was a no-brainer!”

Directors Cut celebrates its 14th Birthday

By news, Uncategorised

In July 2013, Directors Cut celebrated its 14th birthday.

Much fun was had by all and amongst the crowd was Magical Bones – a wonderful magician who performed his tricks right in front of amazed guests. Highly recommended!

The 14 years have seen the facility grow from just 3 edit suites on one floor in 1999, to now nearly 20 edit suites across four floors, with fully dedicated colour grading, online and audio dubbing facilities.

This is thanks to our belief in working hard to provide good value, doing it right… and having fun whilst doing so.
